Events in blue are non-BDS events.  This means that where they are drives, the mileage cannot count towards your Rally Miles.

Drive from Golden Cross Equestrian Centre, Chiddingly, BN27 3SS

Arrive from 10.00am.  This drive normally incurs a 5.00 parking fee.  This year Cliffe Equine Veterinary Practice have invited us to take mulled wine/juice and mince pies at their premises.  This will mean a drive of 8.8 miles.  The usual drive of 5 miles will also be available but will not include refreshments of mulled wine etc.

East Sussex Area Annual Meeting Broad Oak Village Hall, Burwash Road, Broad Oak, Nr Heathfield, TN21 8SS

Meeting at 11.00am to 1.00pm.  This year we are holding our annual meeting at Broad Oak Village Hall.  We have booked the hall for 2 hours so please arrive promptly at 11.00am.  There is plenty of parking on hard standing.  Tea and coffee with cakes and biscuits will be provided.  We are also planning to hold a raffle so donations of raffle prizes would be much appreciated.

Consisting of Sunday Best showing; Hazards section; Best matched time cones course.  Rosette for attending and rosettes to 6th place judged on combination of hazards and cones section.  Starting from 12.00 noon and going on to no later than 3.00pm.  For details on the hazards please .

Summer Solstice Charity Evening Drive, Cliffe Equine Veterinary Practice, Harbens Farm, Mill Lane, Laughton, Lewes BN8 6AJ.


This is an early evening drive and will encompass the by-way.  Meet from 5.00pm.  A donation of a minimum of 10.00 for each turnout.  Cash collected on the day.  The money is going to American FondoUK which provides veterinary and farrier care to the poor hardworking horses, mules and donkeys in Morocco.  To learn more about this charity .

Meet at Fletching in Sue Page's woodland at 10.30am.  This fun event consists of three phases: Presentation; Road drive or cones (you choose which you would like to do); Skills test (a series of skills to test your driving ability and your horses obedience and agility).

In addition to the drives already planned we are hoping to add some impromptu drives throughout the year.  If you are interested in attending any of these pleasure drives, please contact Pearl Hudson.

Remember to bring your B.D.S. membership card with you to all driving events as proof of insurance. Each turnout should carry a competent groom at all times. 

Juniors aged 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.  Also drivers, grooms and passengers who are under the age of 14 years and who are participating in any British Driving Society officially organised event, activity or competition must wear a hard hat which fits whilst on any horse drawn vehicle and this includes grooms who have dismounted to assist with the horse.  A hard hat is that typically used for riding and kite marked to the latest safety standard and with an appropriate chin strap harness attached.  Current safety standards are EN1384, BSEN1384 and PAS015.

BDS East Sussex Area RECOMMEND that all Drivers, Grooms and Passengers wear hard hats and, on the roads hi-viz, on our official drives. If you choose not to, by attending, you are aware and acknowledge that it has been recommended.
